Comparisons

-Both models are giving direct eye contact with a seductive look to catch the viewers attention so that they could buy the magazine.

-The layout of the magazines are similar because the majority of the cover lines are aligned on the left side of cover with the model credit on the right side. This is effective because the person reading it reads the masthead first then reads the model credit because it’s separate from the cover lines which draws their attention.

On both magazine covers the colour of the masthead is the same colour as one other element of the magazine (Zink + Spring fashion issue, Try this on for size & W + Mila Kunis). This helps to draw the readers attention to the main highlight of the magazine.

 Differences

In W magazine Mila Kunis is posing for a have body shot but in the Zink magazine is a over the shoulder shot. Mila Kunis is in lingerie which gives sex appeal, whereas Malin Akerman shows no parts of her body.

The coral text on the white background on the W cover gives the magazine a fresh look to it and it comes across as a calm feeling. In the Zink cover the whole magazine has cool blue-purple tones which gives it a colder look and the model’s hair looks wet which adds more to the cold look. The viewer’s might be attracted more to a magazine that has a warm mood instead of a cold mood.

Both masthead’s have very different font styles. On the W magazine the font professional and classy and On the Zink magazine the font is very playful and friendly (instead of using and “i” in Zink they use an exclamation mark instead).

On the W magazine the feather on Mila Kunis’ blouse slightly goes over the masthead but on the Zink magazine the masthead overlaps the model’s face. When the masthead is being covered it shows people that the magazine is well known because you recognize it even if it’s covered.

“Your beauty. Our passion. We promise”

The first element of the poster that catches my attention is the whole row of make-up. Just by looking at it, we know right away that it is definitely make-up related. The message of this poster is that the make-up brand Physicians Formula is coming out with a new line for spring of 2012. The message is clearly stated and the big and simple text makes it easy to read. The background of the poster is just white which makes everything stand out more. The text on the top of the poster is hot pink with a black background so it goes well with majority of the make-up products, which are pink and purple. The colour scheme, which is mainly pink, white, purple, and black, relates to the content of the poster because the make-up products are very girly (usually associated with pink). The font style of the poster is very simple but at the same time it’s classy.

The written information on the poster is:

-“Killer Kurves present spring 2012 with”

-“Phsysicians Formula. Your beauty. Our passion. We Promise”.

The make-up brand’s slogan which is “Your beauty. Our passion. We promise” is catchy because just by reading that you can tell that their make-up is probably good quality.

The phrase at the top of the poster is dominant because it is brighther and bolder. It is effective because it stand out more in comparison to the other text on the poster. The poster does have the date/season (Spring 2012)  the make-up line is coming out and it is clear. There isn’t too much wirting on the poster, it is just enough to give you the overall idea of the message. The writing is large enough to be seen and the font is very easy to read.  I do believe that this  poster is eye-catching, simple and direct.

The intended audience for this poster I think would be aged 15-50 (anyone who wears make-up) .  The message of the poster is communicated through images and words. The poster has images of the new make-up products so you’re not just being told that a new product line is coming soon, you actually get to see them. I think that the creator hoped that people would see the message of the poster even at a quick glance because it is simple and straight to the point.
